Water Conservation & Efficiency

Smart upgrades that lower your water and utility bills in drought-prone Marin County.

California uses less water per person than it did in 1970, but Marin County still faces significant drought pressure every year. The easiest reductions come from inside the home. Inefficient fixtures and appliances can waste thousands of gallons annually without anyone noticing. Mason Plumbing installs and services upgrades that help your family conserve water.

Save Water Every Flush

High-Efficiency Toilets

The toilet is the single biggest water user in most homes. An older 3.5-gallon-per-flush toilet used by one person wastes more than 12,000 gallons a year compared to a WaterSense-certified model at 1.28 gallons per flush. Dual-flush toilets give you even more control: a reduced flush for liquid waste, a full flush when needed.

A running toilet can waste 200 gallons a day without anyone noticing it. We repair running toilets, replace worn flappers and fill valves, and install high-efficiency models in any brand or style you choose. If your toilet is more than 15 years old, replacing it is almost always worth it.

Hot water recirculating pump

Save Water While You Wait

Hot Water Recirculating Pumps

Waiting for hot water wastes water. In a Marin home where the water heater is in the garage and the master bath is at the far end, that wait can be 45 seconds or more. Every time you run the tap, gallons go down the drain before the water even gets warm.

A recirculating pump keeps hot water circulating through the system continuously, or on a timer, so the water at the tap is already hot when you need it. Most households save 11,000–12,000 gallons a year. The scope depends on your home’s layout and existing plumbing, and we explain what your installation involves before we begin.

Low-Flow, Full Function

Faucets, Showerheads & Fixtures

WaterSense-certified faucets and showerheads use 1.5–2 gallons per minute compared to 2.5 or more for standard fixtures. That is a 20–40% reduction you never notice in daily use. A single dripping faucet wastes more than 3,000 gallons a year. We replace cartridges and stems, install aerators, and source low-flow fixtures in any finish to match your existing hardware.

We also install and repair pressure-balancing valves, which prevent scalding when another fixture draws cold water and are required by California code in new shower installations.
